The Art Nouveau Style is known for its sweeping curves, luscious sculptural effects, and naturalistic approach to design. We'll build a small box constructed with simple spline joints and then decorate it using a variety of Art Nouveau techniques. The design will be adapted from the pictured harp base and will involve topics such as: Planning grain patterns to enhance curved parts, shaping moldings that change in section, and applique leaf carvings. This is a good place to learn basic shaping and carving methods in a small project or tune up your formidable carving skills in another style.  Developing and using patterns and reading grain for carving cuts will be useful in future work and also enhance your hand tool skills.
