Workbench Skills: Shaker Style End Table

Hone your skills building this traditional and beautiful Shaker style end table. Get practice in laying out and cutting mortise and tenon joinery with the router. Learn how to taper legs and how to hand plane and shape wood. You’ll also discover how to properly assemble a table, glue up edge joints, flatten a table top and how to finish your piece so it looks great for years to come. Tune your hand skills and techniques as build this practical and beautiful table with precision and refinement.

Jeff O'Brien was a video editor who wanted his projects to last longer than a :60 spot on the tv screen. From finish carpentry to contemporary built-ins, he and his wife are currently re-fitting a 1970 split-entry . A recent graduate of the Mastery program, he's now building custom furniture (currently specializing in chairs) in West Linn.  Some of his Mastery assignments will soon be appearing in a Fine Woodworking special edition on contemporary design.
