Clamps

Clamps are actually tools, not random curved bars of steel thrown carelessly about the shop. Keep them stacked carefully and clean of glue. Hardened glue on your clamps will dent your wood. Don't overtighten long pipe clamps or clamps with deep engagement heads. These will bend beyond straight making them less useful.

When gluing edge laminations, make sure your clamps are flat, all the same height, and on a flat, untwisted surface. Use galvanized pipe or put masking tape right under the joint to cover the bar or pipe. This will prevent discoloration of your wood. The iron in the clamps will otherwise react with the water in glue to cause black stains wherever the two meet.

Check out the previous shaving.
