Working with hand tools is a joy. They give a woodworker satisfaction like no table saw or router ever could. Learn how to use your hand tools more effectively as we build our own tool box with a steam bent handle. Discover proper lay?out, measuring and marking skills to begin the project. Learn sawing, joinery, and shaping techniques for building the carcase and outfitting the inside of it with a till or compartments for tools. Then learn how to shape and steam bend your handle using age old techniques for bending wood.
In this class you’ll learn joinery, hand plane and spokeshave use, and get experience making a bending and drying jig for your handle. All these skills you can carry back to your own shop. This week will be a great introduction to woodworking for some. For others who have some experience but want to fine tune their hand tool skills this class will be a needed respite from their power tools.
Whether you’re an experienced woodworker or you’ve just started, learning new skills as you build a project is rewarding. Our approach at the Studio is to focus on hand tools as the best way to learn how to work with wood. The feedback is immediate and the rewards will last a lifetime.
