The rumors are true, it's easy to get around in Portland. There's a light rail line from the airport that connects travelers to the transport system. Firstly, we make available a broad range of tools for student use and maintain a complete sharpening area. You are welcome to bring your own tools.
Carry On Baggage
Don't take tools as carry on.
Checked Baggage
Most airports do the security checking behind the scenes and may not lock your suitcase after they examine it or put a strap back on. Inspectors, not all being woodworkers may not know to handle your more precious tools with care. Also, tools are heavy and it's best to check weight limits when checking baggage with tools inside.
Shipping
A great option is to ship them very carefully packed via UPS or FedEx. Carefully packed means they could survive a 3 foot drop. To get ground shipping rates, it is often necessary to ship one calendar week or more before your workshop. Heavy boxes are frequently delayed by a day or two and economy shipping rate packages are often delivered late in the day. Mark your packages very clearly with your "shipping from" name and address and the "ship to" address, this in addition to the shipping slip. Plan your package arrival date for at least one business day before the start of your workshop and be sure to let us know it's on the way.
