Fenestration not frustration! An Introduction to Doors and Windows for your tiny House.

This interactive workshop is a mix of vital information about doors and windows coupled with hands on practice. When you finish this weekend you will better understand what it takes to install the windows and doors in your tiny House. We will cover different types and particular things to watch for when choosing them. We will discuss the pros and cons of new or salvaged pieces and what exactly is the National Fenestration Rating Council and why do I care?

Learn the structural framing around a door and its anatomy from the frame, jamb, stop, hinge and latch sides and the lites or windows in a door. Get information on door types: swing, slide, and pocket and which is best for your tiny House design. Learn the difference between interior and exterior doors, and pre-hung vs. slab or salvage doors. Hanging doors is critical to the warmth and security of your tiny House. Learn how to flash, weatherproof, and install a lock for your exterior door.

Windows need their own kind of structural framing. We will construct a window wall and learn about the different types of windows and the anatomy of one from frame to sash to sill. Do you want sliders or casement windows? What about energy efficiency? What are the important things to know? Can I use salvage windows and how do I make one work well and be weather tight?
